The Church on the Mountain began as “Mount Hood Bible Church” in 1976.  Pastor Stan Wall and several families met in homes for Bible studies.  The first church service was held at Camp Arrah Wanna on January 4, 1976. Originally, Mt. Hood Bible Church was affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America.

In 1978, the growing congregation purchased land on the banks of the Sandy River in Welches, OR.  The building was known as the “Log Church” because it was built with trees logged from the property. The first service in the auditorium of the new building was held in October of 1981.

Two other churches, The Chapel of the Hills, pastored by Mike Whisner, and Mountain Hope Fellowship, pastored by Mark Nicklas, joined with Mt.Hood Bible Church in 1998 to form one church family called “The Church on the Mountain”.  Mike Whisner remained to pastor TCOTM.  In January of 2012, Tim Simon was called to be the pastor and lead the church through a fruitful season.  Thomas Robinson became the pastor as of November in 2020.

TCOTM is associated with InFaith, the oldest mission organization in America.  InFaith, formerly known as American Missionary Fellowship and The American Sunday School Union, remains dedicated to planting and assisting rural churches.
